Hands Off protest in Rehoboth draws more than 1,000
More than 1,000 people gathered April 5 at the Rehoboth Beach Bandstand and then marched on the Boardwalk as part of the nationwide Hands Off! day of action.
The protest was organized by Indivisible Southern Delaware, “to stand in solidarity against those who believe they can take whatever they desire – our rights, our future, our democracy.”
Speakers included Rep. Claire Snyder-Hall, D-Rehoboth, Indivisible Southern Delaware’s Cheryl Siskin, Cape Henlopen High School 11th-grader Emerson Sheldon, the Rev. Elizabeth Keaton from St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Helen Salita from the American Civil Liberties Union and more.
There were a handful of supporters for President Donald Trump in the crowd and a few vehicles sporting Trump flags nearby.
Prior to gathering downtown, a significant majority of the protesters lined Route 1 from Old Landing Road to Route 24, for a couple hours, protesting the president’s actions. The group has been gathering on Route 1 for several weeks now and has been getting larger with each passing week.
There were also Hands Off protests held in Dover and Wilmington.
