Henry Aloycius McGough, beloved family man
Henry A. McGough left us Monday, March 31, 2025, to be with his Lord. He was surrounded by love with his family and dear friends. He was born Dec. 19, 1949, in Abington, Pa., the sixth child of seven. His parents were Francis J. and Inez (Rhodes) of Philadelphia, Pa. He has been a resident of Sussex County for over 20 years.
His joy was his grandchildren and crabbing adventures with them in his boat, McGoofy. He was a family man, loved cooking, playing board games and shuffleboard, and telling funny stories to his grandchildren. He was so proud of his four children, Lisa, Michael (Stefanie), Adam Schmidt and Michelle (Chris) Simrak; and his grandchildren, Thomas, Abigael, Alexandra, Alicia, Jessica, and John.
He loved his job at the Boys & Girls Club and was responsible for the safety, maintenance, and compliance for 45 buildings in the state of Delaware. He worked his job up to the final moments, worrying about loose ends not completed.
He is survived by his wife, Ann, whom he loved to the moon and back. He loved traveling with her. He is also survived by his sister, Francine Felton. He was predeceased by his brothers, Leo, Frank and Gerry McGough; and sisters, Inez Brown and Barbara McElhaney.
In lieu of flowers, make donations to his favorite charities, Wounded Warriors, USO, or Paralyzed Veterans of America.
The family would also like to thank very special friends, Michelle and Dave Ebbeson, for being there for Henry and all of us during this difficult time.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 15, at St. Jude the Apostle Church, 152 Tulip Drive, Lewes, where friends may visit beginning at 10 a.m. A celebration of his life and luncheon will follow the Mass in the church hall. Interment will be private.
