James H. Groves graduates 60th class

James H. Groves Adult High School celebrated its 60th annual commencement June 6 in Sussex Tech’s gymnasium in Georgetown.

Forty-nine of the 50 graduates were in attendance for the big event. Sen. Dave Wilson, R-Lincoln, presented a tribute from the Delaware Senate.

Sussex County Vocational Technical School District Superintendent Kevin Carson gave remarks to the class, as did Maureen Whalen, director of adult and prison education.

The commencement address was presented by James H. Groves Class of 1991 graduate Kathy Tucker, who has been an intensive care nurse for 37 years at Nanticoke Hospital.

The student speakers were Larry Hearn III and Ledi Yaquelin Rodriguez-Reyes, who spoke of their journeys to a degree at Groves.

The presentation of the graduates was by Kelly Whaley, director of adult education at the Sussex County Vocational Technical School District. Carson conferred the diplomas.
