Jason Scott has assumed his role as assistant principal at Milton Elementary, succeeding Reshid Walker, who resigned to pursue other opportunities.
Formerly the school counselor at Lewes Elementary, Scott said it was an easy decision to move into the new position, which just about every principal he has worked with has nudged him toward.
“I’m super excited,” he said. “Cape is awesome to work for, so when the opportunity knocked, I said yes.”
Scott said he appreciates the homey atmosphere at Milton Elementary, where he is now working with Principal Clara Conn to develop behavior systems, a smooth transition from his work as a counselor.
The Philly native began his educational career in the Red Clay Consolidated School District, where he learned best practices working in turn-around schools in Wilmington for 16 years.
In 2018, he joined Lewes Elementary, where he taught special education and second grade before becoming school counselor, a position he held for three years.
Scott earned his bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the University of Delaware, and master’s degrees in both school counseling and school leadership from Wilmington University.
A self-taught painter, Scott enjoys taking classes at Rehoboth Art League, the beach and pool time.
While at Lewes Elementary, he worked with the art teacher to paint a set of blue-and-gold angel wings in the school’s fifth-grade hallway for students to pose in front of for photos before they move on to middle school.
