Just football

December 2, 2016

On Monday night the Philadelphia Eagles blew their last chance to remain in the NFC playoff race. They were very underwhelming on both sides of the ball. The defensive line just simply didn't show up.

This was very distressing given that they were facing one of the best quarterbacks in the league in Aaron Rodgers. He toyed with the defense like he was playing a video game! The offense wasn't very impressive for their part, but it doesn't help when the quarterback has a rookie running back and no legitimate receivers to throw the ball to.

Next week's game is against the Cincinnati Bengals. If the Eagles can't win that game, I don't know when they're going to get another victory this season. It is a shame to see it all fall apart.

In college football, this week is the championship week for most conferences. Some of these games will determine who makes it into the college football playoff.

I will be amazed if Alabama doesn't ultimately win the whole thing. They are like a well oiled machine. The controversy will be about the other three teams who will participate. Before this weekend it would likely be Ohio State, Clemson and the University of Washington with Michigan, Wisconsin and Penn State on the outside looking in.

There is a strong possibility that at least two teams will get in the playoffs from the Big Ten conference, which would create a lot of discussion from the critics of the four team playoff format. I'm rooting for this to happen because it causes great TV drama!

Go Penn State, my mom's alma mater...
