Legacy lives on at Delaware State Fair

July 21, 2023

The 2023 edition of the Delaware State Fair began July 20 and runs through Saturday, July 29, in Harrington.

The fair as we know it today began July 27, 1920, as the Kent and Sussex County Fair. It lasted four days, and admission was 25 cents for children 6 to 12 and 50 cents for adults.

This photograph was likely made in the mid-20th century, showing how much the fair had grown in the few decades since its inception.

Today, the 10-day fair boasts attendance of more than 307,000, drawing people to a variety of attractions, from food, games and carnival rides to concerts, harness racing and farm animals. At the state fair of today, there is something for just about everyone.
