October 13, 2024

A 66-year-old Lewes man died Oct. 13 after police say he drove off Stockley Road near Milton and crashed into a tree.

The crash happened at 12:13 a.m. when, police said, Sherman Jackson was speeding eastbound on Stockley Road west of Beaver Dam Road and his Toyota Corolla veered off the south side of the road and struck a mailbox in the 29000 block. The car continued through the front yard of a home, and then crashed into a tree, police said. Jackson was not wearing a seatbelt, police said, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Stockley Road was closed for about two-and-a-half hours while the Delaware State Police Troop 7 Collision Reconstruction Unit investigated the crash and cleared the roadway.

The investigation is ongoing, and troopers ask anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact Sr. Cpl. J. Smith at 302-703-3267. Information may also be provided by sending a private Facebook message to the Delaware State Police or contacting Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-847-3333.
