A Lewes man faces charges after police say he approached a man with young children July 16 at a Rehoboth Beach-area hotel and threatened him with a knife.

According to Delaware State Police, Theodore Guajardo, 51, approached a 31-year-old man who was with his 4-year-old son and 7-month-old daughter about 8:20 p.m. in the parking lot of the Inn at Rehoboth on Airport Road when he threatened to kill the father with a knife.

Cpl. Amina Ali of the Delaware State Police said the victim did not know Guajardo.

Police located Guajardo across the street from the hotel with a knife sheathed on his hip, Ali said. Guajardo was arrested and taken to Troop 7, where he was charged with felony aggravated menacing, felony possession of a deadly weapon by a person prohibited, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. He was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 3 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $5,550 secured bond.
