Love Creek Elementary volunteer Edward Cedar was named Delaware’s Mentor of the Month for March by the Creative Mentoring program.
Cedar has mentored fourth-grader Joshua Smith once a week since October, and hopes to continue working with him in the 2023-24 school year.
“Josh and I hit it off right from the beginning,” Cedar said.
Cedar, who retired from teaching music after 40 years, started introducing music into his weekly sessions with Joshua. First, they worked on the recorder that Joshua was studying in his music class, then moved to the ukulele.
Connecting Generations operates the Creative Mentoring program for adaptation in Sussex, Kent and New Castle schools. Cape launched its program in November 2021.
