March Madness winner is totally up for grabs
Last year the Kentucky Wildcats were the favorite to win the National Championship. That will not be the case this year. There are 8 to 10 teams that all have a decent chance to cut down the nets in 2016.
Some of them include Michigan State, Villanova, Kansas and North Carolina. There are other teams that have a solid chance, but I did not include them in this short list. I do not think the defending champion Duke University Blue Devils is one of them. They have been way too inconsistent this year.
In order to keep up with all the possibilities this year, you will need to watch as many of the games as possible. It should be a very exciting tournament, since nobody really ever knows what's going to happen. I am going to root for Michigan State and Villanova to go to the finals.
The Philadelphia Flyers might actually make it to the playoffs this year under the leadership of rookie head coach Dave Hakstol. This would definitely be a bit of a surprise since the team is very young. The flyers are in ninth place as of now, only three points out of the last playoff position in the Eastern Conference.
The rookie defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere should be getting consideration for Rookie of the Year. He has carried the team on his back since the All-Star break. I just hope they can get to seventh place in the standings so that they don't have to play the Washington Capitals in the first round. The Capitals are the top team in the Eastern Conference and are the favorite to make it to the Stanley Cup finals.
There's not much news so far from baseball spring training because most teams have only played one official preseason game. I usually expect and hope that the start of baseball preseason means no more snow, so I am hoping this system predicted here is a bust!
In local sports, congratulations is in order to the Cape Henlopen boys basketball team for making it to the first round of the playoffs. In wrestling and girls swimming we have six new state champions, four girls and two guys!
I'm also looking forward to watching both Cape Lacrosse teams play this year. It will be fun to see if the girls lacrosse team can continue their dynasty and make it a crazy eight straight championship seasons.
Spring can't arrive soon enough!
