Students enrolled in the Friends At Milton Elementary program continue to delight audiences with their after-school theatrical productions.
On March 15, FAME students presented a Disney showcase, performing a medley of songs from hit movies, including “The Bare Necessities,” “Hakuna Matata,” "Cruella De Vil," “Let’s Go Fly a Kite” and “You’ve Got a Friend in Me.”
FAME students also had the opportunity to participate in a garden club run by Rachel Terracina of Healthy Foods for Healthy Kids. Terracina said students learned about the structure of plants, how their seeds are spread, and the growing process.
“Through fun games and activities, such as a plant auction, vegetable painting and outdoor games, the students were able to use their plant and insect knowledge,” Terracina said. “Parents, your child’s green thumb should help you have a successful garden this summer.”
The enrichment program is made possible through the Delaware Department of Education’s 21st Century Community Learning Center grant secured in 2019 by FAME co-coordinators Kacie Goins and Brittany Matthews.
The grant, which is renewable for up to five years, provides $320,000 in annual funding for the after-school and summer program, for a total of $1.6 million.
