The PGA championship is this week and everybody is talking about Jordan Spieth's chances to win "The Career Grand Slam."
This would be a very noteworthy story because, at the age of 24, Spieth would be the youngest person ever to do that. I don't actually think he has much of a chance to win the event though, because they are playing at the Quail Hollow club in North Carolina.
Quail Hollow is known for being a very long golf course. Spieth does not hit the ball over 300 yards consistently enough to contend in the tournament. The amount of rain North Carolina is supposed to receive will make the long course even longer. I think players like Rory McIlroy and Dustin Johnson will have a much better chance to win event. Quail Hollow is often the site of the Wells Fargo Championship, which McIlroy has won twice.
In other golf news, the 2019 PGA championship will move to May. That will make the British Open the last major in July. I think this is a good move to basically end the golf season by the beginning of September because football is so popular now. This could allow more focus on golf's Fed Ex Cup.
In baseball, I wish the Phillies would only play the Braves, because they now have a 10 and 2 record in the last 12 games against Atlanta. HAHA! I'm also very happy to hear that the Phillies will be calling up top prospect Rhys Hoskins very soon because there's no point in waiting much longer since the team has struggled mightily this season.
I would also like to mention that I was very sad to hear of Darren Dalton's passing away last week at the age of 55.
Dalton was a very important part of the first Phillies team I really loved, the 1993 National League champion team. I was only nine but I remember Dalton as a great catcher and hitter. He actually led the NL in RBIs in 1992, which is rare for a catcher. Dalton will forever be a Phillies legend.
