Lewes planners to meet Nov. 20

The Lewes Planning Commission will meet at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 20, at the Rollins Center.

The agenda includes discussion and possible recommendation to mayor and city council regarding a dark sky lighting ordinance.

Johnnie Walker Beach group to meet Nov. 21

The Lewes Johnnie Walker Beach Subcommittee will meet at 5 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 21, at city hall.

The agenda includes discussion of DE250 grant opportunities.

The Lewes African American Heritage Commission will meet at 6 p.m. at the same location.

That panel is set to receive a presentation on a proposed interpretive sign for Johnnie Walker Beach.

Lewes public budget workshop Nov. 21

The Lewes Financial Stewardship Subcommittee will host a citizen engagement workshop Thursday, Nov. 21, at the Rollins Center.

Two identical sessions will be held, from  1 to 3:30 p.m. and from 5 to 7:30 p.m.

The panel’s goal is to get public input on priority budget items as the city transitions to a multiyear budget cycle.

Special Rehoboth meeting set Nov. 21

The Rehoboth Beach Planning Commission will hold a special meeting at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 21, in the city hall commissioners room, 229 Rehoboth Ave. The agenda calls for continuation of the preliminary site-plan review for One Rehoboth Avenue Hotel, a preliminary review for a proposed partitioning at 87 Henlopen Ave., and a project concept review for the Beach View Hotel on Wilmington Avenue.

Food Bank drive-thru mobile pantry set Nov. 22 in Georgetown

In advance of the Thanksgiving holiday, the Food Bank of Delaware will hold mass drive-thru distributions in each county. The Sussex County event will begin at 8:30 a.m., Friday, Nov. 22, at Crossroad Community Church, 20684 State Forest Road, Georgetown.

To help speed up the check-in process, preregistration is requested at Nov22Sussex.eventbrite.com. On-site registration will also be available, and preregistration does not guarantee service. Service will be first-come, first-served, while supplies last. Assistance is limited to one per household, and recipients must be present to receive supplies.

Recipients must bring proof that they live in Delaware, such as a state-issued ID, utility bill or Delaware SNAP benefits card.

Lewes to hold ARPA funds meeting 

Lewes Mayor and City Council will hold a special meeting at 10 a.m., Friday, Nov. 22, at city hall

The panel will discuss and possibly take action on allocating remaining funds from the American Rescue Plan Act by the Dec. 31 deadline.

The Rehoboth Beach Planning Commission will meet at 1:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 22, in the city hall commissioners room, 229 Rehoboth Ave. The agenda calls for discussions of proposed revisions to city code and of the Belhaven Hotel project, which might require an executive session.

Rehoboth Audit Committee to meet 

The Rehoboth Beach Audit Committee will meet at 10 a.m., Monday, Nov. 25, in the city hall commissioners room, 229 Rehoboth Ave. 

The agenda calls for a presentation of the city audit ending March 31, 2024, and a discussion of the city’s fund balance and net position policy.

Rehoboth shade tree meeting canceled

Conservation Stewardship Award entries due Dec. 13

Sussex Conservation District, the delegated authority for Delaware sediment and stormwater regulations in Sussex County, is accepting entries for the 2025 Conservation Stewardship Award. It will recognize organizations in seven categories that have exceeded regulations to prepare, protect and preserve sensitive natural resources in the county.

“We hope to inspire continued voluntary conservation efforts and empower residents to partner with organizations that prioritize sustainable practices,” said Jessica Watson, SCD sediment and stormwater program manager. “Since our inaugural event in 2022, we’ve been delighted by the enthusiastic response and support from our community.”

Entries will be accepted in the following categories: certified construction reviewer, design team, developer, green conservation, home builder, project manager and site contractor. Multiple entries per organization are permitted, and photos and videos are encouraged. The deadline to enter is Friday, Dec. 13.

A panel of judges will evaluate entries; winners will be announced in early January. Winners will receive the 2025 Conservation Stewardship Award and graphic.
