Lewes art group meets April 23

The Lewes Public Art Committee will meet at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 23, at the Rollins Center.

The agenda includes discussion of the committee’s annual art installation.

Lewes BPW to meet April 23

The Lewes Board of Public Works will hold its monthly meet at 4 p.m., Wednesday, April 23, at city hall.

The agenda includes discussion of the wastewater treatment plant long-range plan.

Trail closing hours for April 23, 24

Delaware Department of Transportation recently announced that the Lewes-to-Georgetown Trail will be closed overnight during the hours of midnight to 8 a.m., Wednesday and Thursday, April 23 and 24, from Cool Spring Road to Savannah Road. Weather conditions may affect these plans. Phone 800-652-5600 or 302-760-2080 for details.

The closures are to allow required herbicide application for vegetation control.

DelDOT and its hired contractor only apply herbicides registered by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for vegetation-control purposes. The EPA has determined through testing and review that when applied according to label instructions, these herbicides pose no unreasonable risks to human health, wildlife or the environment.

Rehoboth to join drug take back day April 26

The Rehoboth Beach Police Department will participate in the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, April 26. Residents can bring their old, unneeded or expired prescription medications to the lobby of the police department at 229 Rehoboth Ave. The prescription drop-off process is anonymous. For safety reasons, sharps and syringes will not be accepted. Vapes and e-cigarettes are accepted only if batteries are removed prior to drop-off.

Tulip dig in Lewes includes 10 gardens

Lewes in Bloom announced its annual tulip dig will start at 8 a.m. sharp, Saturday, April 26, rain or shine, at 10 of its gardens around town. Participants should bring gloves, trowels and bags; no shovels are allowed.

The 10 gardens included in the dig are at Zwaanendael Park, Mary Vessels Park, 1812 Park, Otis Smith Park, Gateway Garden, Lewes Post Office, Margaret Rollins Community Center and Lewes Public Library, Stango Park, Lighthouse Garden, Dogfish and Graves corners.

DelDOT sets open house on two studies 

The Delaware Department of Transportation will hold a public open house for the Five Points Transportation Study and the SR 1 Low-Stress Bikeways Study from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 21, at the Cape Henlopen High School cafeteria, 1250 Kings Highway, Lewes.

The public can view study information for the Five Points Transportation Study and final recommendations for the SR 1 Low-Stress Bikeways Study. Team members and DelDOT staff will be on hand to answer questions. A brief presentation on the Five Points study’s annual report will be given at 4:30 p.m. and again at 5:30 p.m.

The presentation and all related workshop documents, including comment forms, will be posted on the respective project web pages: publicinput.com/5points and publicinput.com/sr1bikewaystudy during the week of the open house.
