No ruling made on city manager lawsuit
The two opposing sides in a lawsuit seeking the termination of Rehoboth Beach City Manager Taylour Tedder met in court March 28 to make oral arguments as to why the lawsuit should or should not be dismissed.
City commissioners announced the hiring of Tedder in April 2024; his first day on the job was May 15, 2024. Among other things, his contract calls for a $250,000 annual salary, plus $50,000 in moving expenses and a $750,000 home loan that will be forgiven in full if he stays for seven years.
The lawsuit was filed in August and is seeking to void Tedder’s contract because, it argues, it was beyond the commissioners’ power to enter into an agreement that violates the city charter, and the employment agreement is an illegal use of municipal funds. The city has argued commissioners have the right to make the hire and are seeking to have the case dismissed.
Lynne Coan, city spokesperson, said the judge did not issue a ruling and did not offer a definitive time frame for the decision. It’s possible that it could be months before a ruling is issued, she said.
