The NFL draft process is in full swing
According to Philadelphia Comcast SportsNet, the Eagles are somewhat interested in drafting Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota.
This is being considered in part because Chip Kelly was Mariota's college coach for a year. I do not understand the logic being used here, because the Eagles have been in playoff contention with Nick Foles at quarterback for the last two years.
Right now, the Eagles are drafting in about the 20th spot. In order for them to trade up to draft pick number 2 (Florida State's, Jameis Winston will surely go first overall) the Eagles would have to give another team most of their other draft picks to get Mariota. I hope by the time the draft actually happens in April that they think better of it.
The Eagles need defensive secondary players a lot more than they need a new quarterback.
There are only two and half weeks until the NCAA basketball tournament starts. That's always been my marker for winter closing and spring being close on it's heals. There is one unfolding story going into March Madness, and that is whether or not the University of Kentucky Wildcats can go undefeated for the entire season. As of right now they are 28 and 0. If Kentucky can complete the task they will be the first team to do so since the 1976 Indiana Hoosier team did this under the helm of now retired coach Bob Knight. On most occasions, I would be rooting for any team to go undefeated all season, but in this case I cannot because of the way that Kentucky recruits their players. Four of Kentucky’s starting five players will be drafted by the NBA after one year of college. This is not the way college sports should work!
