This year in the NCAA basketball tournament there is no clear favorite to win the championship like there was two years ago, when the University of Kentucky should have gone undefeated, but lost in the Final Four to Wisconsin.
This year there are at least five teams that can win the whole thing; North Carolina, Kansas, defending champion Villanova, and on the West Coast, Gonzaga and UCLA. With no consensus as to who's going to win, I wonder who will be the last team standing? Get ready to do your brackets and then ultimately to be quickly disappointed by your picks.
The Phillies have continued to score a significant amount runs in most of their Grapefruit League games. Maybe one of the reasons they call it the Grapefruit League is because the early preseason pitchers are often throwing pitches that look like a grapefruit. Moreover, I don't know how impressive this really is because a lot of the best players on teams are participating in the World Baseball Classic tournament. I'm not a huge fan of having this type of tournament right before the season starts due to the risks of injury for the players.
I know you're not supposed to feel bad for professional athletes, but there are already too many games in the baseball season. Why add even more?
The only reason they were able to play this many games in the early days of American baseball was there were no other organized summer sports to compete with it for the fans. If the WBC tournament is going to survive, MLB should shorten its season to 154 games and start the regular season a little later so fans like me can go to early season games without getting frostbite.
I have to give a big congratulations to the Cape Basketball teams making the state tournament and for putting up a good fight against stiff opposition in the playoffs.
And one last little tidbit. The Valspar Championship in Clearwater, Florida is the PGA tour event this week. It's a fun event to watch and my aunt Ginny is one of the many volunteers.
