No more Chip
In a surprising move, the Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie decided to fire Chip Kelly with only one game left in the season. This timing is very weird. I would have thought that if the Eagles owner was going to do this, it would have been better to wait until the end of the season so as to avoid this being incredibly awkward for the players and the other coaches still on the team.
It is true that the Eagles performance against the Washington Redskins was lackluster at best, but why was it necessary to fire him now? Most of the media thought he was going to get one more year to fix this mess.
Let's hope that the next Eagles coach has much less of an ego and doesn't act like he is the smartest guy ever and works well with his players. Can you tell that I think that was Chip's biggest problem?
For the first time in a long while, I went to the night games at the Slam Dunk to the Beach basketball invitational and was very impressed with the crowd support the tournament received. The high school parking lot was totally packed, and the tournament organizers did a good job recruiting some very talented teams.
It will be interesting to see whether or not some of the players, who played in this year's Slam Dunk, do well in college and eventually make it to the NBA.
For next year, I hope they can come up with easier seating areas for handicapped people like me and for all of the grandparents that I am sure would like to come.
By the time my next article is published, all of the college football playoff games will have been played except the national championship. When I was much younger, most of the football bowl games were played on or just after New Years Day.
In this year's college football national playoff, I will not be cheering for any particular team. Although, if Alabama wins the entire thing, I will not be that happy. In my view, the Crimson Tide seem to think they are the most important team in college football.
Happy New Year everyone.
