I didn't think this was possible, but the Phillies situation has gotten worse. The pitching staff has completely self-destructed and the offense isn't capable of picking up the slack. They clearly will not be able to finish with a 500 record. I really thought that was a realistic goal for the season. If the lackluster playing continues, there will definitely be big changes in the off-season. I hope this does not have to happen.
The NFL has made two significant changes to their rules this off-season. First and most importantly, they have significantly shortened the length of overtime play in the regular season from a 15 minute period to a 10 minute period.
I'm not quite sure what to think about this move because they've had the same overtime rules since 1974. It is true that NFL games take too long, but no one will know how big an effect this will have until we see how many extra games end in a tie this season.
The other new rule has to do with touchdown celebrations. There has been a long running joke that "NFL" stands for the "No Fun League." I am in favor of them relaxing the celebration rules a good bit, but I hope they don't go from one extreme to another.
There will be no Triple Crown for horse-racing this year. Cloud Computing was a surprise win for the Preakness. Did anyone else find the owners of Always Dreaming came across as quite arrogant in the lead up to the race? I will watch the Belmont just to see the difference in attendance with there being no Triple Crown possibility. It is still unknown whether Cloud Computing will be in this race.
Enjoy this Memorial Day weekend. Hopefully the weather cooperates.
