After decades in business, Quillen’s Hardware in Rehoboth Beach has closed.
Located on Hebron Road, just outside downtown, the longtime business closed March 27, according to a message on the door.
“The hardware division of D.F. Quillen & Sons Inc. is closed permanently,” reads the message. “We would like to thank all our valued customers that have supported us over the years.”
Quillen’s Hardware was founded by Dennard and Charlotte Quillen. The hardware store moved to its current location in early 2008. For the 33 years prior to that, it was located on the triangle-shaped lot downtown, where Lake Avenue and Fourth Street meet on the north side of Rehoboth Avenue. Since the store moved, that location has been home to The Cultured Pearl.
The hardware store was part of the construction company D.F. Quillen and Sons, which was founded in 1916 and is still operating.
