Real football begins, almost
The third preseason game for the Eagles is this week against the Miami Dolphins. I will be paying attention to the game for at least the first half because the starters will be playing.
Specifically, the Eagles offense needs to become more productive in terms of scoring touchdowns instead of field goals. I am in favor of them decreasing the amount of preseason games from 4 to 2, because of how violent the games have become and how boring the preseason games are for the fans. I expect this to happen in the next 2 to 3 years.
I don't talk about boxing much at all, but unless you live under a rock and haven't heard, there is a big boxing match happening this weekend.
Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Connor McGregor will go at it in the ring. I expect Mayweather to win by a knockout within the first two or three rounds. In his prime, Mayweather was the best boxer of his era. He is coming out of retirement to fight McGregor who is a UFC champion at his weight class.
If McGregor somehow wins, I think it will be one of the biggest upsets in sports history. It would be right up there with the U.S. hockey team beating the Russians in the1980 Olympics. I will not watch the fight because it is on pay per view TV and once it's over, it will be all over social media in a matter of seconds.
So, every year I watch the Little League World Series, and with each year I am more and more impressed with the level of play by the 12 and 13-year-old kids in the competition, especially the pitching and infield defense. The final championship game is on Sunday.
Please make the time to watch a little bit of it. It's really what makes baseball a great team sport! Oh, it's on ABC at 3 p.m., so no excuses that you didn't know where to find it.
