Sailboat washes up on Lewes Beach

Mystic Wind breaks free of anchor in Delaware Bay in rough seas Oct. 7
October 9, 2023

Another unusual boat situation has occurred in Lewes. The sailboat Mystic Wind broke free of its anchor Oct. 7 in rough seas in Delaware Bay near Roosevelt Inlet and washed ashore on Lewes Beach in the area of Connecticut and Bay avenues.

It’s not clear whether anyone was on the boat. Beach residents said the crew of the boat had dropped anchor and left the boat. The U.S. Coast Guard was not involved in the incident. There was no information provided on who owns the sailboat.

It was only two weeks ago, Sept. 22, that Pegasus, a 25-foot sailboat, sank in the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal, then was raised Sept. 25 and towed to Angler’s Marina.
