Delaware Safety Council announced the new Operation Lifesaver Decide Smart, Arrive Safe School Bus Driver Training program.
As Delaware’s partner with Operation Lifesaver, the council oversees rail grade crossing safety statewide.
This innovative resource designed specifically for school bus drivers aims to enhance rail safety education. School bus drivers play a critical role in ensuring children’s safety, and railroad crossings present unique challenges and significant risks for these drivers and their passengers.
With the responsibility of safely transporting children, drivers must be well-versed in best practices for navigating these intersections. The training plays a crucial role in enhancing drivers' awareness and preparedness, providing them with the knowledge and skills needed to prevent crashes and save lives.
Railroad crossings can present unforeseen dangers, and the safety of children on board is a responsibility that cannot be overstated. This training equips drivers with essential knowledge and practical skills to navigate these grade crossings safely. By understanding the signs, signals and correct procedures, drivers can make informed decisions.
The program's real-life insights from veteran drivers and its structured approach ensure that every participant gains valuable, actionable safety practices.
By facilitating training sessions for school bus drivers across the state, the council ensures that all drivers receive comprehensive rail safety education. Training plans can also be customized to meet the specific needs of different districts and communities, ensuring the training is relevant and effective.
Community-wide educational campaigns will be launched to raise awareness about the importance of rail safety for all school bus drivers and the availability of the Decide Smart, Arrive Safe program.
To incentivize participation, the council can offer certifications or recognition for drivers who complete the training.
