Masters week, as all my readers know, is my favorite golf event. It did not disappoint. Sergio Garcia fulfilled a hard earned career dream of winning a Major. It was 18 years in the making and he did it by beating Justin Rose in a one hole playoff to win the Masters Golf Tournament in Augusta. On Sunday, the tournament basically turned into a two man race between Justin Rose and Sergio Garcia until the 13th hole when Sergio made a great par after hitting his initial shot into the water. Up until then, Justin Rose looked as if he had complete control in the tournament. It looked like Rose was on his way to winning his second Major along with his 2013 US Open win.
After Sergio's par save at 13, it seemed like Rose felt the pressure of Sergio creeping up on him. Sergio seemed to be even more relaxed after he Eagled the par 5, 15th hole. Sergio is the first Masters Champion to make Eagle on that hole since 1994.
One of the best parts about golf for me, is the fact that you can still win a major championship when you're 37. In most sports (other than that guy with the New England Patriots), age 37 is past retirement age.
I know I have been saying this will be another tough year for the Phillies, but I didn't expect it to be so soon. In their game against the Washington Nationals this past week, they managed to score a record 12 runs in the first inning to crush the Nationals 17 to 3. So I'm a happy guy. Then they won the next game which got them to .500 on the season. Again, happy guy.
But, unfortunately in the next series with the Mets, Phillies pitcher, Edubray Ramos threw a pitch over the Mets batter, Asdrubal Cabrera. As a consequence of throwing this wild pitch to infuriate the batter, it blew up in the Phillies faces! All this did was to wake a sleeping giant and the Mets bats. The Mets then proceeded to dominate and swept the 3 game series.
I hope the Phillies have learned their lesson, that as a very mediocre team, they can't win too many games doing stupid stuff like that.
