St. Jude confirmation class students gather donations for Code Purple

Program still accepting men’s items; shelter nights begin Dec. 1
November 13, 2023

A group of ninth- and 10th-graders at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church in Lewes has been gathering donations for Code Purple.

The church provides a Code Purple shelter for homeless men during the winter months, and religious education students of different grade levels have been collecting and sorting donations of socks, gloves, toothbrushes, shaving cream, disposable razors, lotion, hats and other needed items for the program, which will begin offering accommodations Friday, Dec. 1.

The 51 students enrolled in the ninth- and 10th-grade confirmation prep program presented their collected items during their 10:30 a.m. Class Mass held Nov. 5.

Donations are still needed and can be dropped off in the vestibule of the Religious Education building at St. Jude the Apostle Parish off northbound Route 1 just north of the Five Points intersection. Anyone who is unable to drop off their donation may contact Scott Betyeman by emailing scott@proconservices.net.
