Steelers ain't happy!
Tom Brady had his four-game suspension overturned which makes me feel bad for Steeler fans. Brady gets to play in the season opener at home next Thursday in Foxboro. The NFL is already appealing the decision. I wish they would all just forget the whole fiasco and move forward.
On a more positive note, Jen Welter became the first female coach in the history of the NFL by working for the Arizona Cardinals as a coaching intern during the preseason. I don't expect this to happen very frequently in the future, as so few women have prior playing experience.
In baseball, I think what ESPN did last Sunday was very cool by having Jessica Mendoza replace Curt Schilling in the television broadcast for at least one week. I think she became the first woman to help call a major league game in the broadcast booth. She was a very good softball player for the United States National team.
I think it would be easier for her and other women softball players to become a coach in baseball, because softball is so similar. Unfortunately, the Phillies had to play the New York Mets again and lost two out of three. The games they lost were pretty predictably awful!
I have been very surprised with the number of players at the U.S. Open tennis tournament who have had to retire because of problems dealing with the heat. As of now, 15 players on both sides of the draw have had to call it quits before finishing. I would have thought that the players and trainers would have figured out a way to deal with this problem, as it isn't exactly a new thing.
On the men's side there has been one big upset. In the first round, number 4 seed, Kei Nishikori of Japan was beaten by Benoit Paire in five sets. Kei made the Men's final in the Open last year. He is going to lose tons of world ranking points!
