Super Bowl "50"
Sadly, everyone is feeling the same about this year's Super Bowl. The momentum is huge in favor of the Carolina Panthers trouncing the Denver Broncos. This would be a terrible way for Peyton Manning to finish his career, so let's all hope he has some miracles in his pocket this Sunday. The last Super Bowl that Denver was in, was two years ago, against the Seattle Seahawks with a nasty losing score result of 43 to 8.
Other previous blowouts that I recall for the Super Bowl were in 1993 with the Dallas Cowboys over the Buffalo Bills (I apologize to my brother-in-law for bringing this sad fact up now), and again in 1995 when the San Francisco 49ers won over the San Diego Chargers. Let's hope that all of these sad statistics are not repeated for Super Bowl 50.
In the Australian Open tennis tournament this past week, history was made on both sides of the draw. On the men's side, Novak Djokovic dominated Andy Murray. This makes Novak 6 for 6 in his appearances for the finals of this Open. He has now won 11 Majors.
My two favorite male tennis players of all time are Pete Sampras and Roger Federer. I think Djokovic could very well get to Sampras' 14 Major wins record but not to Federer's 19.
On the women's side, a huge upset occurred, just like I predicted in last weeks article. Germany's, Angelique Kerber pulled off a stunning win against the overwhelming favorite, Serena Williams. It was a great match and went to 3 sets, which is unusual in women's tennis. Serena has dominated the sport for the last few years, so it was great to see such great competition and see someone have a chance to compete with the likes of a Serena.
This is also good news in that Serena has to continue to play her top game in order to have the chance to match or beat Steffi Graf's record of 22 Grand Slam titles over an entire career. Records are meant to be broken and is what keeps sports at center stage.
