Sussex Academy seniors named Secretary of Education Scholars
For their exemplary work ethic, dedication and accomplishments, Sussex Academy seniors Shannon McLaughlin and Brianna Sordi have been named Secretary of Education Scholars.
“We are incredibly proud of Shannon and Brianna for all they have accomplished in high school. This well-earned recognition is a testament to their dedication and hard work, both in and out of the classroom,” said Kyle Bentley, head of school.
The state has named Secretary of Education Scholars every year since 1984, and the number of scholars from each school is based on enrollment. Students are chosen by their school administration for their academic records and community service.
Shannon, the daughter of Jim and Maureen McLaughlin of Lewes, approaches life with a “can’t stop, won’t stop” attitude balanced with a strong commitment to kindness. She demonstrates a rock-star status, whether it’s in competitive dance, in a student leadership role, giving back to the community, exhibiting professionalism in summer jobs or her determination to achieve mastery of content. Shannon intends to major in chemistry and is currently weighing her college options.
Brianna, the daughter of Mark and Roxanne Sordi of Lewes, sets very high standards for herself and pushes herself to take the most rigorous academic course load available. Brianna takes pride in her work ethic, diligence and organizational skills. Given her deep level of empathy and compassion for others, it’s not surprising that she plans to major in kinesiology or exercise science and to later pursue a doctorate in physical therapy.
A recognition event for all Secretary of Education Scholars is planned for Monday, April 7.
