Sussex Consortium holds pre-K literacy night for young families

The Cape Henlopen School District and Sussex Consortium welcomed families with children ages 3 and 4 to a fun and engaging pre-K literacy night Jan. 22.
Through interactive storytelling and family-friendly learning experiences, attendees focused on early literacy skills. Designed to spark a love for reading in young learners, the event featured hands-on literacy stations, read-aloud sessions and take-home resources to support early reading development. Families were able to engage in games, explore sensory-based learning and discover strategies for fostering strong literacy habits at home.
“We are thrilled to have offered this event again for families. The evening is dedicated to celebrating literacy and empowering families with tools to support their child’s learning journey,” said Dr. Audrey Dempsey, supervisor of early learning. “At Cape, we believe that building a strong foundation in reading at an early age sets the stage for future academic success.”
The event was open to pre-K students and their families who reside in the Cape Henlopen School District. Attendees also received free books and literacy materials to continue the excitement of reading beyond the classroom.
