Talking trouble all the way around

March 14, 2015

For some unknown reason, Chip Kelly and the Philadelphia Eagles front office decided they needed to make a major overhaul of a previously successful 10 and 6 team. What's up with that?! On the defensive side of the ball this makes some sense to me, considering how inconsistent the secondary players were last season. To fill the defensive void, the Eagles have signed cornerback Byron Maxwell away from the Seattle Seahawks. For right now this is the only good move being done. The Eagles surprisingly traded Nick Foles to the St. Louis Rams for their very injury prone starting quarterback Sam Bradford. This makes no sense at all since he has already suffered two ACL injuries. If he has another one, his career is basically over and it would be while he is playing for Philadelphia! Good move Chip. To add to this mess, wide receiver Jeremy Maclin is no longer an Eagle and has signed with the Kansas City Chiefs. That leaves a whopping total of one successful wide receiver on the Eagles roster for newbie quarterback Bradford. The DeMarco Murray signing away from the Cowboys seemed to brighten spirits in the City of Philadelphia

The Phillies news is not all that positive looking either. Cliff Lee could be out for the season before it even starts. He has re-aggravated his elbow injury from last year. Obviously, this would make him un-tradable, and the Phillies will stink even more than we thought!

Did anyone else watch the Davis Cup tennis match between the US and Great Britain? It was a very exciting match to watch between John Isner and James Ward until they got very deep into the fifth set. The match was basically determined at the end by whomever was not going to collapse first. Tennis is a very physical sport and the extreme length that some of these matches go, makes it dangerous for the players. They really need to change the rules so that the final set of the match ends with a tiebreaker rather than playing until somebody wins by two games. The Isner/Ward match went to 15-13 in games, which is more than an extra set. Ward ultimately won only because of his fitness level.
