August 18, 2024
Five teens face aggravated menacing and other charges Aug. 17 after police say they harassed three women in Rehoboth Beach.

Police said the women were in the area of Baltimore Avenue and Second Street at 2 a.m. when five teens, ages 14-15, got out of a vehicle and told the women that their behavior was not appropriate. Police said they believe the women were targeted because of their sexual orientation. During the exchange, police said, one teen fired an Airsoft gun at the women before all five of them got back into the vehicle and drove off.

The vehicle was spotted later on Route 1 by Dewey Beach police, and the teens and the adult driver, 21, were taken into custody without incident, police said.

The teens, two age 15 and one age 14 from Rehoboth Beach, a 15-year-old from Blades, and a 14-year-old from Lewes, were charged with three counts of felony aggravated menacing, offensive touching, hate crime and third-degree conspiracy. The man, 21, of Bridgeville was charged with disorderly conduct and released on his own recognizance pending a later court date.
