On Tuesday, Tyrese Maxey scored 46 points in the Sixers’ overtime victory over the New York Knicks. Tyrese was able to score seven points in the final 28 seconds of regulation to force the game into overtime. It was his coming out party on the national stage, but it was only a two-day reprieve. Game 6 was not to be a winner. The Sixers came out flat and had to work too hard to get the game evened up by halftime and just ran out of gas. Oh well, it was an exciting season.
It looks like the Eagles had a very successful draft last week. They focused mostly on drafting defensive players, which was an obvious move for them since their defensive secondary was a disaster last year. In the first two rounds, they selected two cornerbacks, Quinyon Mitchell from Toledo and Cooper DeJean from Iowa. Cooper is also well known for being a great punt returner. I hope these new picks work out because if they do, I think Saquon Barkley won't get as beat up and can possibly stay healthy for most of the season.
The Phillies are in a virtual tie with the Atlanta Braves for first place in the National League East division. They had their best ever April record and have won over 21 games. This has to continue so they can keep up with the Braves. The only weakness so far has been the middle relief pitching. Seranthony Dominguez has had way too many wild pitches when he's on the mound, and Gregory Soto (who is important because he’s the only left-handed pitcher) has been so inconsistent. Pitching has always been the Phillies’ nemesis.
To end on a positive note, third baseman Alec Bohm has gotten off to a great start this season offensively. He's hitting .330 with 26 RBIs already and currently has a 15-game hitting streak, which is tough in Major League Baseball. This offensive performance was definitely unexpected but I hope it continues.
