Very good defense leads to Eagles win
The Philadelphia Eagles pulled into a tie for first place in the mediocre NFC East division with the New York Giants. The final score of Monday's game was 27 to 7. If the offense hadn't turned the ball over four times, the score could have been a lot more lopsided.
Actually, to start the game, the Giants offense scored on their first drive but then promptly gave up a total of 4 turnovers to give the Eagles their romp. The Eagles adjusted quickly and the Giants started to self-destruct It will be interesting to see whether the whole team can maintain the momentum going into this weekends Sunday night matchup against the undefeated 5-0 Carolina Panthers and their quarterback Cam Newton.
One team has advanced to the World Series. The New York Mets completely dominated the Chicago Cubs in the National League championship series, sweeping them aside 4-0, proving the old adage that great pitching always beats good hitting. Don't worry if you're a Cub fan though; if the good players get a little better, they will probably win a World Series in the next five years ending the last curse in professional sports.
This is the first time the Mets have been in the World Series since 2000. I apologize to my New York Mets fans, but I can not root for them to win the World Series. I must remain loyal to my Phillies. Go American League.
All my long time readers know how much I like watching golf on TV. Well you will be surprised to hear that I boycotted watching an event this week. I skipped the World Long Drive Championship because I think the long drive discipline is not real golf.
The competitors do hit the ball ridiculous distances of 30 to 50 yards past the PGA tour players, but it seems like they're allowed to use tricked up clubs in these competitions. The way these competitors swing at the ball reminds me of the movie Happy Gilmore and Adam Sandler's approach to his tee shots.
