Winners of Darby Mowll, RN Nursing Scholarship named
The Darby Mowll, RN Nursing Scholarship is awarded to Cape Henlopen High School seniors who have demonstrated academic excellence, are interested in and passionate about becoming a nursing healthcare provider, and have committed to attend a school of nursing or college program in nursing.
This year’s Darby Mowll, RN Nursing Scholarship Awards were presented Kayla Droge of Harbeson and Ellis Jack of Lewes during the May 30 senior award program at Cape Henlopen High School.
The scholarship is named in memory of Darlene “Darby” Mowll, RN, who provided competent and compassionate care to thousands of patients over the course of a 30-year nursing career in newborn and maternal care, medical and surgical care, and home care. Mowll was one of 11 children in a big Irish family (the McLaughlins) who was only able to attend nursing school because of the financial assistance she received from the school and other benefactors.
Droge wants to pursue a career in nursing to make a difference in people’s lives. She said she has been inspired by the wonderful effects that nurses have on patients and their families. Droge will enter the College of Health Sciences at the University of Delaware this fall to major in nursing.
Jack knew at a very early age that he wanted to be a nurse when he grew up. He was impressed by the nursing care he received during a childhood illness and wants to be able to help people. Volunteering through an internship at an outpatient cancer center, Jack listened to and helped patients through their struggles with cancer. He will also be attending the College of Health Sciences at the University of Delaware this fall.
The Darby Mowll, RN Nursing Scholarship team is proud to recognize these two outstanding individuals as they begin their preparation for a career in caring for others – nursing.
