You never know what can happen
Unfortunately, Rory McIlroy will not be able to defend his 2014 title at the British Open next week thanks to a broken ankle! He did this playing in some sort of a pick up soccer game with friends last weekend. Pro athletes in any sport take a greater risk when just playing around.
To make things worse, the St. Andrews golf course would have been great for him as a long hitter. And there are four very drivable par fours on this course. He would have had a great chance to be in contention to defend his Open Championship this weekend.
I agree one hundred percent with his decision not to play the tournament because of how serious his ankle injury seems to be. Let's all hope he's back in time for the PGA championship.
Go USA!! In last Sunday's Women's World Cup Final, the United States dominated Japan winning 5 to 2. The US team got off to an amazing start, scoring four goals within the first 16 minutes of the match. They were very aggressive and took advantage of a very poor defense on Japan's part for some of their goals.
US midfielder Carli Lloyd, from nearby South Jersey, had a three goal "hat trick" within the first 15 minutes, including a very impressive goal with the shot taken from half field. That doesn't happen very often in any kind of soccer.
For the overall tournament itself, I was very happy to see that all of the referees for the tournament were female. I would like to see more of that in other women's sports as well. Let's all hope that the US professional soccer league for women stays afloat this time. They have tried and failed twice before.
