Lots of thoughts this week

August 25, 2016

The Eagles play their most important preseason game against the Indianapolis Colts on Saturday. Both teams will probably play their starting players for at least 1/2 of the game. This will be the Eagles’ most competitive preseason game so far. It will be interesting to watch the Eagles offense try to match up to the proven good defense we have already seen.

It is unrealistic for the team to rely on winning every game 10 to 7 in the regular season. Yeah, "defense wins championships," but you have to get there with some good offense as well.

The unknown length of Lane  Johnson's suspension just adds to the insecurities that this seasons team has so far.

The Summer Olympics in Rio are technically over until the Tokyo games in 2020. The closing program's part where they turn it over to the new venue was really cool. The use of the ever popular Mario Brothers video game was so creative and entertaining. It will be a huge challenge to keep the broadcasting current with the major difference in time zones, but that's four years from now. So not really very newsworthy just yet.

The US had an incredible Olympics winning 121 medals! I really hope NBC covers the Paralympics that start in September. There was very little done on the network to promote the continued interest to follow these amazing athletes. I will definitely try to watch and encourage others to do the same.

The Phillies don't deserve much mention once again. This week they seem to be playing "out the string" which is disappointing to watch, considering they have six weeks left of the season. Their 9-0 loss against the Cardinals was pathetic and they just kept it up with a 9-1 loss on Tuesday against the mediocre White Sox.

Lastly, the US Open tennis tournament starts on Monday .I'm really hoping that the U.S. men have a good showing. That hasn't been the case for a long while. The last American male to win was Andy Roddick in 2003!
