The Eagles fly past the Falcons

November 17, 2016

On Sunday, the Eagles improved their record at home to four and zero on the season by pulling out an impressive win over the NFC South first place Atlanta Falcons. The Eagles defense was quite good throughout the whole game especially controlling the Falcons best player receiver Julio Jones. This guy is capable of dominating any team the Falcons go up against.

The Eagles offense played pretty well, especially running the ball. For some reason, they decided to scare me with passing the ball way too much when they were ahead in the fourth quarter which seems counterintuitive. As the season goes along, I hope the play calling gets more consistent. It will be quite difficult to maintain their winning ways in the next two weeks because they're playing the Seattle Seahawks away on Sunday and then the Green Bay Packers the week after that.

The last round of qualifying for the men's World Cup began very badly for the US national team. They lost their first two games this week, first to Mexico at home 2 to 1 and then to Costa Rica on the road in embarrassing fashion, 4 to 0. If the United States fails to qualify, it will be the first time in 28 years since the World Cup was held in Italy in 1990. The loss to Mexico was sad but understandable. Their performance against Costa Rica was a totally different story. The team did not seem to want to be there at all.

Jurgen Klinsmann could be on the hot seat in terms of his job security because of the team's embarrassing performance. I'm definitely not his biggest fan since I think he has a big ego from being a great player. He also seems to think that he should get all the best US players from the German professional league instead of using the available MLS talent.

The next game for the US is in March. So they have to make a decision soon as to Klinsmann's future. I think if there's a coaching change, it could Tad Ramos. He was on the famous 1994 team that made it to the knockout stage of the World Cup when it was in the United States.

Congratulations to the Cape Henlopen field hockey team even though they lost in the quarterfinals at the state tournament last week. Unfortunately, this broke an incredible streak of five consecutive state championships. They lost to the Tower Hill school who used to dominate the sport back in my day.

Congratulations also goes out to the Cape football team for having another winning season and just missing the playoffs.
