The Australian Open tennis tournament is down to the last few participants. The women's single final is between the Williams sisters! Going into the tournament, this was seemingly impossible. Everyone thought that Venus was way past her prime at the age of 36, but she has proven all the naysayers that this isn't so.
It will still be a huge upset if she beats her sister Serena in the final, as Serena is the predictably huge favorite to win. I will be cheering for Venus to win because this will most likely be her last, best chance to win the Grand Slam event.
On the men's side, Roger Federer made it to another Grand Slam final at the age of 35. Again, no one thought he would get this far in the tournament, because he missed the second half of last season with a knee injury and had barely played at all going into this tournament. If Rafael Nadal can make it to the finals as well, this will be a great blast from past matchup. It will all be fun to watch no matter what.
Talking about sports worth watching, I sure hope the Super Bowl turns out to be a great game. With the exception of the Green Bay vs. Dallas game, all of the NFL playoff games this year were a total bore to watch.
It seems like Comcast SportsNet had forgotten that the Philadelphia Eagles season is over. They just go on and on. There should be more to report on the teams that are still in season as far as the 76ers and the Flyers are concerned. But then again, none of the Philly teams are very newsworthy these days.
This week's "worst call" is a little broad and pretty much a no brainer. I don't expect there's much to be debated here: I was VERY disappointed in the quality of last week’s NFL games! Both the Green Bay Packers and the Pittsburgh Steelers did not even show up for their respective games. It seemed like the Packers whole team was completely overwhelmed by the offense of the Atlanta Falcons and the Pittsburgh Steelers seemed outmatched by the New England Patriots’ offense.
I'm ready for baseball.
