The College Baseball World Series has just concluded. I think this was the most games I have ever watched in this tournament over the years. It is very refreshing to see how much every pitch matters to all the players.
The University of Florida won their first ever NCAA baseball title over their SEC Conference rival LSU. I wish it was a little easier to follow the double elimination format for the tournament. In order to understand it, you have to watch almost every game, although I did get pretty close to accomplishing that.
The atmosphere was quite electric throughout the tournament. It was like they were playing in a major-league baseball stadium and they usually had more fans attending these games than half of the MLB teams, including the Phillies this season.
The Phillies did actually win two straight games against the Seattle Mariners! This weekend will determine if they can maintain that "streak" against the New York Mets. The possibility is there since the Mets are just as disappointing as the Phillies this season. The sad point though is that the Mets actually had a realistic chance to make the playoffs at the start of the season.
Wimbledon starts on Monday July 3rd. This is one of my favorite tennis tournaments of the year along with the US Tennis Open. I one of the tennis fans that likes hearing about the long history of the Wimbledon tournament because it began in the 1870s. I hope the American tennis players actually show up. They've disappeared lately.
And even though the basketball season is technically over, there is some news on that front too. Phil Jackson resigned as the GM of the New York Knicks. This just proves that, just because you're a legendary coach, doesn't mean you can be successful as a manager in the sport. Steve Miller has his work cut out for him.
