Baseball is the busiest sport in the US from July 4 until football season starts in September. Next week is the All-Star break and the Phillies only have one All-Star, because that's all they deserve.
Our All-Star player is Pat Neshek, a middle relief pitcher. It's a good thing that the trade deadline is at the end of July. Because if was earlier, Pat would already be gone and the Phillies would have no All-Star representative. It is sad that halfway through the season, the Phillies have won only 29 games. The only good thing about this record is that it can't get any worse (I hope)!
Usually the first week of Wimbledon has no controversy, but this year has been different. In the first round there have been a number of players retiring (quitting?) early in the match on the men's side. I seriously wonder whether or not these players weren't injured before they started to play the tournament, and only started to circumvent the rules to receive their $35,000 for playing in the first round. To make sure this type of behavior is curtailed, I think you should have to complete the first round match in order to get paid for playing in the tournament.
On a lighter note, the American players have done pretty well so far. I hope at least some of them make it to the second week of this event. The last American male to win Wimbledon was Pete Sampras 17 years ago.
I'm very happy to see the PGA Tour is back this week at the Greenbrier in West Virginia after the devastating floods in the area last year. I'm cheering for Phil Mickelson to do very well this week with his new caddie, his brother, Tim Mickelson. This is big news because Phil had the same caddie, Jim Mackay for the last 25 years, which almost never happens. This was an amicable decision and they remain best of friends.
