Jordan does it again!

July 27, 2017

The British Open ended in a less than typical golf tournament fashion. It was absolutely entertaining to watch right down to the final hole. Jordan Speith won in a very compelling battle against his fellow American teammate Matt Kuchar.

I was actually cheering for Matt to win because it would've been his first major championship victory. Matt is considered to be one of the most respected golfers on the PGA Tour for his positive attitude and warm personality.

So Sunday's matchup with these two golfers was really fun to watch. With a 3 shot lead to start Sunday, Jordan struggled, making bogeys on 3 of the first 5 holes. This had him tied with Matt to make for a great last round between these two players.

Matt played his typical steady golf and was tied with Jordan by the end of the 5th hole. On the 13th hole, it got completely weird. Jordan hit his tee shot completely off the map, sending it 100 yards from his intended target in the fairway. He took an unplayable lie and then decided to drop the ball on the driving range which was deemed to be in bounds. (I think the driving range should always be considered out of play.)

From there, he was able to make a great recovery and only score a bogey. It was amazing to see him pull this around and go on and finish five under for the last five holes. Everyone was expecting it to be a tie right to the end and yet he was able to win by three shots. That was an incredible finish!

Now Jordan will have the chance at the upcoming PGA championship in North Carolina to become the youngest player ever to complete a career Grand Slam in a two week time span! I'm definitely rooting for Jordan to keep this level of play going and win this one.

In other news, tennis player Novak Dzokovic announced that he will be out for the rest of the season with his elbow injury. This is the injury that forced him to retire early from Wimbledon. I hope he is able to return for the Australian Open in January.

The U.S. men's soccer team won the Gold Cup. This is the North American version of the World Cup which is a competition between all of the North American teams only during non-World Cup years. They beat Jamaica in the final 2 to 1. Ever since Bruce Arena has become the coach again, the U.S. has been undefeated for 14 straight games. They have yet to have to prove themselves against any European competition, but this is impressive.

The trade deadline is coming up for Major League baseball, but it's not going to help the Phillies any for this year! I'm just glad there have been so many other good sports stories to follow.
