The Delaware Cannabis Advocacy Network and Delaware NORML hosted Delaware’s sixth annual participation in the Global Cannabis March May 5. It had rained all morning, and more rain was in the forecast, so the march, which normally draws hundreds, only drew a couple dozen of the most dedicated supporters of legalizing marijuana.

“Prohibition doesn’t stop in the rain,” said Zoë Patchell, Delaware Cannabis Advocacy Network president, prior to the march.

The march takes place annually the first weekend in May. Starting in Surfside Park, at the north end of the Boardwalk in Rehoboth, the march finished at the Bandstand. Both groups are in favor of legalizing marijuana in Delaware. After an abbreviated rally under the cover of the Bandstand, the marchers enjoyed pizza at Nicola Pizza.

The Global Cannabis March dates back to the 1970s in New York, garnering international support since 1999. The first Delaware march was held in Newark in 2014, but it has been in Rehoboth every year since. For more information, go to delawarecannabis.org or denorml.org.
