Last week, the Philadelphia Phillies were on a roll. They had an eight-game winning streak and were in first place by two games over the Atlanta Braves. This week, their offense has become nonexistent again! Now the Braves are playing quite well, and have a four-game lead over the Phillies in the division. The Phillies schedule is supposed to be easy, but they just got swept in a three-game series by the Arizona Diamondbacks, who are among the worst teams in baseball, along with the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Baltimore Orioles. If the Phillies don’t get their act together soon, their summer fun will be over fast. I might just be watching the Little League World Series. Now that's entertaining!
The U.S. Open tennis tournament starts on Monday. At least some fans are allowed at the tournament this year. I’m not sure if it will be for full capacity or not. Unfortunately, Roger Federer and Andy Murray will not be competing this year. I don’t know if either one is going to fully retire yet. This is my favorite tennis tournament of the year because I can watch all the of the matches live with it taking place in the same time zone. All the other major tournaments make that difficult to stay current.
I really enjoyed watching as much of the Olympics as possible. Not having fans in attendance did make a difference to both viewers and the athletes, but it was still cool watching all the athletes trying to make their own excitement. The Tokyo Paralympics broadcast starts Tuesday. I will be trying to watch some of the wheelchair tennis and basketball along with swimming and track and field events.
