On Monday night, the Eagles should have won the game against the Atlanta Falcons without much difficulty, but inexplicably, they found a way to lose by a score of 22-21. This happened after having the ball with the lead and under two minutes to go in the game! I don’t know why they didn't just run the ball two more times and use as much time as possible. Instead, they tried a swing pass to Saquon Barkley who proceeded to drop the pass which stopped the clock. The Eagles then decided to kick a field goal to go up by six points. I think the defense thought the game was over and then they let the Falcons just go down the field for the winning score. Very sad!
I hope the team can recover this week against the New Orleans Saints. The Saints have been surprisingly good over the first two weeks. If the Eagles want to make the playoffs, their defensive line needs to improve a lot and make more effort at getting pressure on the quarterback.
The USA women's golf team won the Solheim Cup by the score of 15 1/2-12 1/2. It was too close for comfort on Sunday afternoon considering the US had a commanding 10-6 lead going into Sunday singles. On Friday and Saturday, during the team portion of the event, the USA team was able to dominate the back nine of the course, and they also took advantage of the home crowd boosting their efforts.
The LPGA had trouble dealing with a traffic jam on Friday which slowed getting the fans on the property in order to cheer for the players. They were able to fix the problem by the second day on Saturday. The two MVPs for the USA team were Nelly Korda and Rose Zhang, both of whom went 4-1 for the week. I was surprised to hear the next competition is in the Netherlands in 2026. I’m curious, as I haven’t heard of any notable golf courses there.
The Phillies magic number to make the playoffs is one, and four to win their division. They are playing pretty well, but there are still some health worries for the team. Ranger Suarez has not pitched very well after his latest back injury, and Bryce Harper seems to be iffy with his arm and shoulder injuries. I guarantee you after the season is over (hopefully in late October or early November) Harper will be taking a well-deserved rest.
