True Blue Jazz founders and producers Eddie Sherman and Peggy Raley presented their 12th round of annual scholarships to Cape Henlopen High School graduates from the Class of 2024.
The Nammack/Ennis Scholarship was awarded to Sam Mincey, who is pursuing music studies at Syracuse University. The scholarship was initiated by Mary Anne and Russ Scott to remember the friendship they kindled between local jazz historian John Nammack and jazz saxophonist David Ennis.
Continuing his music studies at University of Delaware, Conor Wiedmann received the Lawrence “Scotty” Scott Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship was named to honor the Cape Region musical icon who was the first African American artist to perform in formerly segregated clubs. Scott became a beloved fixture in the local restaurant scene becoming a teacher and mentor to many area musicians.
