After the judging was concluded, all three Sussex Academy students who entered the Sussex County Science Fair earned top spots, along with eligibility to compete in the Delaware Valley Science Fair.
Sussex Academy freshman Eva Navitskaya, sophomore Jack Thomas and junior Katya Geyer each earned first place in their divisions and received additional honors.
Eva received first place in the ninth-grade awards for her project, Rise of the Plastivores, which also earned third place in the Delaware Biotechnology Institute category.
Jack won first place in the 10th-grade awards for his project, Using Stratcast to Examine Speculatory Causes of Major League Baseball’s Injury Epidemic.
Katya received first place in the 11th-grade awards for her project, Effects of Kanamycin & Ampicillin on Growth Rates of Saccharomyces Cerevisiae and Y384 Yeast Strains, which also earned the Delaware Tech Special Award and first place in the Delaware Biotechnology Institute category.
