The YMCA of Delaware, in partnership with Autism Delaware, will hold a statewide Autism Awareness Tour featuring Alex the Autism Delaware Bear visiting various sites throughout April.
Alex’s month-long trek will include a stop from 2 to 5 p.m., Tuesday, April 8, at the Sussex Family YMCA, 20080 Church St., Rehoboth Beach.
Now in its fourth year, the tour focuses on welcoming those with autism into every aspect of the community, from sports and recreation to summer camp and the arts.
“The Y seeks to improve the health and well-being of every individual we serve,” said Jarrett Royster, YMCA of Delaware president and CEO. “The Autism Awareness Tour helps unite our community while highlighting our uniqueness and celebrating what binds us together. The YMCA is welcoming for all.”
“Autism Delaware is honored to again partner with the YMCA of Delaware to help spread awareness of the autism community here in the First State,” said Dan Getman, Autism Delaware director of development. “We hope that as Alex tours each location, his presence serves as a reminder that each child with autism is unique, with different needs, but no less able than the next. He looks forward to these visits every year and hopes to bring a little joy to each person he meets.”
