Romantic comedy ‘Kalamazoo’ staged reading set April 27

April 20, 2025

The Lewes Public Library Spoken Word Society will welcome Cape May Stage’s Roy Steinberg and Marlena Lustik for a reading of “Kalamazoo,” at 5 p.m., Sunday, April 27, at 111 Adams Ave., Lewes.

Written by Michelle Kholos Brooks and Kelly Younger, the romantic comedy deals with life’s second act and learning one is never too old to be young. Peg and Irv, two quirky but endearing baby boomers, bravely venture into the world of modern dating, but when these opposites attract, they discover love isn’t any easier the second time around.

“’Kalamazoo’ is a terrific evening of theater. It has moments of depth and a serious side along with a lot of laughs and insight into lives that our audience can really relate to,” said David White, Spoken Word Society volunteer artistic director. “And, of course, the Lewes audience knows the Cape May Stage folks well – first-rate professionals!”

Seating is limited, and registration is required. To register, go to lewes.lib.de.us or call 302-645-2733. This performance is presented by arrangement with Dramatists Play Service Inc. and does include adult language.

Steinberg and Lustik delighted the Lewes community last year with their reading of “Love Letters.” Steinberg is artistic director of Cape May Stage, and Lustik is a frequent contributor as a director and performer. Both have performed on Broadway, regional and national stages for decades, and they are members of the Actors’ Equity Association.

The Lewes Spoken Word Society celebrates the tradition and artistry of oral storytelling through lectures, performances, discussions, demonstrations and other publicly shared experiences.
