A winter wonderland everywhere but here!

Just in time for the holidays, last week's Eagles versus Lions game was played in unexpected blizzard conditions. It was a tale of two halves.The Lions dominated the first half and could have had a huge lead if they had not continuously fumbled the ball. They were only leading 8-0 when teams went into the locker rooms. All the credit goes to the Eagles, who made some great adjustments at the half to run the ball more in the terrible weather. LaSean McCoy had 150 of his 217 rushing yards in the second half, setting a new team record. The final score was 34-20.

They should be able to win this week's game against Minnesota, especially because Adrian Peterson won't be playing due to a foot injury from last week, when the wintry conditions got the best of him in Baltimore. Hopefully the Eagles can take advantage of Minnesota's weak record. The Eagles are now in first place in their division and are no longer tied for first because Dallas lost to Chicago. Maybe the Bears were used to playing in single digit temperatures.

In college football, the national championship game has finally been set between between Auburn and Florida State. It should be a high scoring game based on Auburn's strong offensive power in running; however, they lack in defense. In their last game against Missouri, they scored 59 points and had 545 rushing yards. Florida State has dominated the ACC conference all year and deserves a chance for the title. This was finally determined when Michigan State knocked Ohio State out of the running in the Big Ten Championship. The national championship game will be played on Jan. 6 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif..

Unfortunately, the U.S. soccer team got one of the worst draws they could get for the 2014 World Cup. They will go up against Ghana, Portugal and Germany, three of the strongest teams in the tournament. To have a chance to advance to the second round, they will have to win their first game against Ghana. But then there's Portugal, which has one of the best players in the world in Cristiano Ronaldo and Germany, which has always been a powerhouse and has three World Cup championships to its name. Only the top two teams in each group advance to the next round.

In a bit of baseball news, Roy Halladay has decided to retire because he has been hurt for a while and isn't recovering enough to have a respectful ending to his career. I am actually really proud of him for doing this. Too many professional athletes (especially baseball players) hold onto their fame too long instead of looking out for their health and leaving on a positive note.
