Easy win for the Eagles to start the final run to the playoffs

November 14, 2014

The Philadelphia Eagles hammered the Carolina Panthers on Monday Night Football this past week-- a 45 - 21 romp. The Panthers proceeded to fumble the ball away to the Eagles on the first drive of the game. It went from bad to worse from when their quarterback, Cam Newton, seemed to re-aggravate an ankle injury that has plagued him from the beginning of the season. I believe he played his worst game ever, throwing four interceptions! To add insult to injury, he was sacked by the Eagles defense nine times! The Eagles defensive ends played very well. The game was so lopsided in the first quarter that I didn't even care that my cat was on the mantle batting at the action on the TV. She was more fun to watch than the game! The Eagles offense and special teams both played very well. Mark Sanchez did not do anything wrong for his first start in a number of years, and Darren Sproles made a huge difference on special teams by returning a punt for a touchdown in the first half. Let's hope this level of play continues because this will be a very challenging 11-day stretch for the birds as they play Green Bay away, Tennessee at home, and then Dallas away on Thanksgiving day!

I am paying more attention to college football this year because of the new playoff system that's been put in place. This new ranking system makes it more obvious as to what games are important to watch. Notre Dame and Auburn are both out of the championship race because they both lost their second game. The important games to watch this week are Alabama versus Mississippi State and Florida State versus Miami. Because of the new system, these are really playoff games in November.

And even more importantly for this week's thoughts, I want to say congratulations to the Cape boys' soccer team for a great showing in the state tournament playoffs and best of luck to Cape's field hockey team heading into the finals. The Cape girls are making us all very excited--and scared!-- with their last minute and overtime wins in the quarter and semifinals. Go Cape!
